Q: Does the Patel Conservatory offer tours?
A: Yes. The tour will be guided through Patel Conservatory’s three-story, 45,000 square-foot facility, which includes spacious and contemporary dance studios with sprung floors and fully equipped multi-functional black-box theater, suitable for both performance and non-performance events. Q: How do I register?
A: You can register online, over the phone with a credit card or in person in the Patel Conservatory Chairmen’s Library. Tuition may be paid in full for the year or by the month (school-year only). Monthly tuition must be paid by pre-authorized debit from a bank account or credit card at time of registration.

Q: Where are classes held?
Most classes are held here at the Conservatory but a few of our dance classes take place on the Tampa Prep campus, just across the Cass Street Bridge. Parking is available there and Straz Center security is on-site to assist.

Q: Who needs a badge?
All students enrolled in school year classes, both children and adults, are required to have a photo ID badge prior to the first class. These are made in the Admissions Office/Library and take just a few minutes. The first one is free but lost badges require a $10 replacement fee.

Q: Can I try a class prior to registering?
Most of our classes allow a Pass to Class so that your student may try it once. Please visit the Admissions Office to request a Pass to Class. Give the form to the instructor prior to class and they will complete it afterward. Limited to one pass per student per discipline.

Q: What happens if a class is full?
Each class is assigned a maximum capacity to ensure quality instruction. Once the class is full, a waiting list may be started. Occasionally we may open another section but are limited by available classroom space. It is best to register early.

Q: What do I need before the first class?
Once registered, you need to have your student ID badge made and complete the Release & Commitment Form (waiver). If registering online you will be prompted to sign digitally. Confirm with Admissions if you are unsure. Your instructor or department will communicate any other specifics, i.e. shoes required, color of leotard, materials to bring to class.

Q: How do I apply for financial aid?

Q: If I apply for financial aid for the fall, do I have to reapply for the spring or summer?
A: You are only required to submit an application fee once per family, per calendar year or if your financial situation changes. You will need to notify the Admissions office of the classes for which you are requesting financial aid for each session (school-year or summer) and each additional class will need to be approved by the scholarship committee.

Q: Do you offer payment plans?
A: We offer payment plans for school year tuition only. The tuition balance is spread evenly over the remaining months and is automatically withdrawn from a bank account or charged to a credit card on the 20th of each month. We do not offer payment plans for summer camps or fees. All tuition and fees are non-refundable. 

Q: Is there a registration fee?
A: There is a required $30 registration fee per student, which is due at the time of registration along with the first tuition payment. The registration fee is waived for all Straz Center annual donors of $100 or more.
 
Q:   What does “ongoing enrollment” mean?
A:   We accept new students throughout the year. Instructor approval may be required to join mid-session. Students joining mid-session should be aware that they are joining classes in-progress. 

Q:   How do I drop a class?
A:   To drop a class, you will need to complete a drop form. Once this form issubmitted, a student will be dropped from a class and their monthly withdrawals will be stopped. These forms are due by the 10th of the month in order to ensure that you will not get charged the next month's tuition. (For example, November’s tuition would be deducted on Oct. 20, so the drop form would be due by Oct. 10.)

Q:   What number do I call if I need to get a message to my child during class?
A:   Call the Patel Conservatory security desk at 813.222.1270 or the Straz Center security desk at 813.222.1070 and ask for a Conservatory staff member.

Q:   Where do I pick up and drop off my child?
A:   There is a pick-up and drop-off lane in front of the Conservatory. This is a pick-up and drop-off lane only, not a parking area, and is subject to ticketing fines by the City of Tampa. When you drop off your child, they will enter through the TECO lobby doors. Your child will exit the same TECO lobby doors that they entered.

Q: Which classes require an audition?
A: Classes requiring an audition or placement will be noted with an asterisk in the course catalog and on the class web page. Dance audition information is available here. Music audition information is available here. Theater audition information is available here.
 
Q: Can I go into my child’s class or watch from outside the door?
A: Students tend to be more attentive and perform better when there are no distractions. Therefore, we do not permit parents to attend or watch their child’s class. Parents are welcome to wait in either the TECO lobby or Chairmen’s Library. Exceptions include scheduled observation days, open classroom days and concluding performances and recitals.

Q: Where does my student meet their instructor prior to class?
A: Instructors meet their classes in the TECO Lobby. If you are running late, someone will escort your student to their class. If you are coming for your first private lesson, the instructor will meet your student in the Patel Lobby, unless other arrangements have been made. For all subsequent lessons after your first lesson, you will meet your instructor in the designated practice room located on the printed schedule. Most students under the age of 10 will continue to be escorted by their private lesson instructor.
 
Q: How do I know which door to use?
A: The Patel Lobby entrance (with the treble clef doors) is open Monday-Friday, 8:30AM – 5:30PM.  These doors can be used for students coming to classes before 3PM and to visit our Admissions office, located in the Chairmen’s Library. The TECO Lobby entrance is open Monday-Friday, 3PM until 15 minutes after the last class ends and Saturday, 9AM until 15 minutes after the last class ends.  This door is the main entrance for students attending classes during these hours.
 
Q: When is the Admissions Office open?
A: Regular schoolyear hours are:
Monday-Thursday, 10AM-8PM
Friday, 10AM-7PM
Saturday, 8:30AM-2:00PM
There are exceptions which will always be noted in “This Week @ Patel,” which is emailed to all registered students every Sunday afternoon.
 
Q: Where can I find something to eat?
A: On the Conservatory side of the building there are two vending machines located between TECO Lobby and the Chairmen’s Library. The Straz Center has a coffee shop and other dining options based on programming. More information on these options is available here
